Scottsdale/Northeast Valley briefs....

Submitted by admin on Fri, 2005-11-04 05:52.

In the home invasion, two masked gunmen stole a 2001 red Corvette coupe, cash, and three handguns at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 9800 block of East Becker Road. The gunmen bound the homeowner to a chair.

At 10:15 p.m. that night, a gunman stole Oxycontin and Valium from Osco Drug, 10653 N. Scottsdale Road. No one was seriously hurt in either incident.

In separate incidents, a north Scottsdale couple and a patron at a pizza parlor were robbed at gunpoint earlier this week, police said.

PARADISE VALLEY - A study group reviewing Paradise Valley's residential remodeling code will present its findings to the Town Council today.

The work session begins at 4 p.m. at Paradise Valley Town Hall, 6401 E. Lincoln Drive. The town is looking at ways to make it easier for residents to remodel their older homes rather than tear them down and build anew.

Raising the current $150,000 value threshold for remodeling to $500,000. Now, if homeowners want to spend more $150,000, they must make several concessions such as hooking up to the sewer system, even if the residence has a functioning septic system, and preparing a grading and drainage plan.

Asking the Paradise Valley Planning Commission to review the current requirement that if residents want to remodel more than 50 percent of their home, they must bring the entire home into conformance with zoning codes.

Finding alternatives to the dollar value threshold to distinguish between a major and a minor remodel.

Considering granting variances based on aesthetic or historic value.

SCOTTSDALE - There will be an open house to discuss an attempt by the Paradise Valley Unified School District to annex 12 square miles of land in northeast Scottsdale.

Maricopa County School Superintendent Sandra Dowling host the meeting at 6 p.m. Friday at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church's Fellowship Hall at 25150 N. Pima Road.

The land is north and east of Pima and Pinnacle Peak roads.
