A week-long sweep by the Chilton County Task Force netted the arrest of eight people during two undercover operations - one in Jemison and one in Clanton.
Arrested were Richard Earl Hand, 45, of Clanton; Daniel Lee Hubbard, 30, of Verbena; Jamie Lanea Boswell, 24, of Verbena; Michael Raymond Nance, 39, of Marbury; Corey Lane Maddox, 29, of Clanton; Terri Elaine Devers, 32, of Clanton; Daniel Keith Rollon, 40, of Clanton and Christopher Charles Jones, 36, of Clanton.
Charges are related to all eight attempting to possess a controlled substance.
"This operation was targeting the abuse of prescription drugs," said task force Commander Shane Fulmer. "We did recover some methamphetamine but primarily we recovered Oxycontin, Lortabs and Methadone."
"What this does is discourage doctor shopping," said Chilton County Sheriff Billy Wayne Fulmer.
Doctor shopping, Sheriff Fulmer said, is the practice of going from doctor to doctor and complaining of various illnesses, trying to score a prescription for painkillers.
"What they want is a prescription for several different painkillers," he said. "They'll go get those filled and sell the pills."
Sheriff Fulmer commended the task force for their work in getting drugs off Chilton County's streets.
"The task force is charged with keeping drugs off our streets," he said.
"The abuse of prescription medication is a problem and they are hard at work to attack it."
