Outdated Medication Collection Breaks National Record...

Submitted by admin on Thu, 2007-04-26 12:53.

This year's Clean Sweep program has broken records and put pharmaceutical drugs in the right hands. Over a ton of medication was collected in 19 locations around Upper Michigan in just three hours. That included over a half million dollars worth of controlled substances like vicodin and oxycontin.

Organizers say they've broken a national record for collecting the most drugs in just a three hour time frame.

The hope was to get the drugs out of the U.P.'s water supply and off the streets, and organizers say the effort speaks volumes about U.P. residents.

Carl Lindquist, of CLS Watershed Partnership says, "I personally think people truly care about the Upper Peninsula, truly love the land and love the water that surrounds us and want to do whatever they can to protect it."
