Suicidal man holds paramedic at knifepoint...
On April 24 at 2:25 a.m., police were called by an employee of the Portsmouth Regional Hospital emergency room who reported a man walked in with a laceration to his left wrist. The man - later identified as Jason Fuller, 39 - had severed blood vessels and was bleeding heavily, said police spokesman Lt. Rodney McQuate.
“It took all six of them to get him in the hospital,” said McQuate, adding that once inside, Fuller was placed in four-point restraints, which he broke through.
In the meantime, “blood was pouring out of his arm,” said the police spokesman.
As the six officers worked to restrain Fuller, Officer Rochelle Jones traced information from a hospital bracelet Fuller was wearing to his residence in Newmarket. Jones then learned from Fuller's roommates that they'd driven him to the hospital for psychiatric help at his own request, said McQuate.
Prosecutor Corey MacDonald told the court that Fuller's criminal history includes convictions for assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal threatening and numerous motor vehicle offenses. He was also wanted on a warrant from Massachusetts for a charge of violating a protective order, but Mass. officials declined to extradite him to face that charge, said MacDonald.
The judge ordered Fuller to return to the court May 1 for a probable cause hearing.
Following his arraignment, Fuller - who also cites an address of 3 Emerald Drive, Barrington - fell in a district court holding cell and complained about pain. He was examined by Portsmouth Fire Department paramedics and cleared for transport to the Rockingham County House of Corrections.
