April 24, 2007 -- Former Mets star Bud Harrelson grew closer to his delinquent son during the boy's trial on charges he covered up a cop's 2005 grisly Samurai sword murder, the retired shortstop said at the teen's sentencing yesterday.
Troy "TJ" Harrelson, 19, was sentenced to 420 hours of community service and five years' probation after he pleaded guilty to hindering the prosecution of Zachary Gibian, who was convicted of murdering his stepfather Scott Nager, a retired NYPD officer.
The younger Harrelson, whom the court had ordered into rehab for OxyContin, cocaine and marijuana abuse, admitted during his trial that Gibian had called, asking him for a ride the morning of the murder.
He went to Gibian's home but testified he couldn't recall many details of what happened because he was drugged up at the time.
