Man arrested on outstanding warrant after car crash...

Submitted by admin on Sat, 2007-04-21 06:53.

BANTAM - A Torrington man involved in a motor vehicle accident in New Hartford was arrested after police discovered a warrant was issued for his arrest for allegedly failing to appear in court.

Michael Carlson, 26, Main Street, was ordered held on bond a total of $22,500 bonds in three cases that were called by Judge Richard Marano Friday in Bantam Superior Court.

Appearing before Marano in a blue hospital gown tied behind his back and black jeans, Carlson spoke quietly with his attorney, Larry Peck, during bond arguments.

"He tells me he came to court on the charge but he was a day late but he did go to court," Peck said.

Carlson is accused of not showing up in Hartford Superior Court to respond to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Carlson has a previous conviction in that court for possession of narcotics last year and is on a conditional discharge, the bail commissioner, Francine Harrison said. Carlson also has a pending case for driving while under suspension.

Carlson allegedly lost control of a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass on Route 202 east of South Road in New Harford at about 10:12 a.m. Thursday. State police reported he was driving west on Route 202 when he traveled across the double yellow lines and struck a telephone pole on the opposite shoulder. Carlson reported experiencing pain in his neck and was treated at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital before he was taken into custody.

Police charged Carlson with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as motor vehicle violations.

Marano ordered Carlson to appear in court again May 15.
